Abstract
This talk will explore the inverse problem of recovering simultaneously the ice thickness and basal slip of an ice flow governed by the shallow ice approximation. The inversion is presented as an optimal control problem constrained by a linear elliptic partial differential equation with an unknown diffusion coefficient. Controlling to recover an optimal diffusion, it can then be manipulated to produce estimates for ice thickness.
