UC alumnus Dr Sam Jackson completed a BE and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering which focused on nonlinear dynamics and vibrations. Now living and working in Bristol in the UK, Sam recommends the city for young science and engineering graduates.
This, he says, is because Bristol has become a hub for many engineering and technology startups over the last 2 decades and they operate across the aerospace, nuclear energy and biotechnology domains. Sam works at the University of Bristol with British appliances company Dyson in the on ultrasonic technology. There, he works on developing ultrasonic technology for application in top secret Dyson products! He enjoys conducting research while gaining the necessary skills which will be useful for his career.
Sam moved to the UK to live in his country of birth, visit his family and also experience a new work and research culture in order to compare it to his experiences in New Zealand. He also enjoys the fact that Bristol is only 1.5 hours from central London by train and that it gives him travel opportunities to continental Europe!
