Abstract
Curious about what Carola have been up to with the COSC 368 students? As many of you know, Carola redesigned the COSC curriculum and packed it with everything she thought a software developer should know about designing software for humans.
In this talk, Carola will give you an overview of the course. She will take you through the elements or planes of creating a user experience. She'll touch on a number of key methods and one in particular that she views as the linchpin of creating effective designs and relate them to the software development life cycle. She'll highlight a few examples of how the students applied these methods in their semester projects.
We will end with a discussion about how Design Education and HCI could be better integrated into the software engineering and computer science curriculum. Design is typically taught as a side topic with its own process and lifecycle that is not integrated with the software development process and the reverse can be said about software engineering. What if we look at a more holistic and combined approach which included design education throughout the curriculum?
And if that isn't enough to lure you in, Carola'll be bringing some wine and snacks to share.
