We are delighted to offer Summer Research Scholarships to the value of $6000 for a 3 month tenure. Closing dates for applications is 30 November 2022.

Recipients must be conducting their research project in conjunction with the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

The UC Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering Summer Research Scholarship supports students undertaking short term research projects and other experiments to provide a foundation for their studies in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury. 

Eligibility criteria

Recipients must be intending to undertake a programme of study in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury within 12 months of completion of tenure of the scholarship

Application process

Applications must be made to the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at civil@canterbury.ac.nz

Selection process

Scholarships will be made available as projects and funds become available.

The scholarship is awarded by the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising:

  • the Head of Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering (or nominee); and
  • the Postgraduate Research Director of Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering (or nominee).

Selection criteria

In making the recommendations, the selection committee gives equal consideration to:

academic achievement; likelihood of success in the applicant’s research and subsequent studies; and strategic objectives of the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering.

If, in any year, there is no candidates of sufficient merit, no scholarship is offered.

Value and payment schedule

The scholarship provides financial assistance at a value of $6,000.

The scholarship is paid by direct credit to the recipient’s nominated New Zealand bank account at the start of the scholarship.

Tenability and retention criteria

The scholarship must be taken up in the year following application.

The scholarship is tenable by students undertaking short term research projects and other experiments to provide a foundation for their studies in the Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury.

The scholarship is tenable for three months.

The scholarship is co-tenable with any other award unless the conditions of the other award preclude this.

If, during tenure, the recipient’s enrolment no longer meets the conditions specified in clause 7.2, the scholarship may be withdrawn and any paid funds may be recovered.

Continuation of a scholarship is conditional on satisfactory academic progress and adherence to the University’s statutes, regulations, policies, and rules.
