PhD CandidateVishvendra (Jay) Bhanu

Research Title: Incorporating the influence of earthquake ground motion duration in structural design and assessment guidelines

Vishvendra’s current research lie in the area of Structural/Earthquake Engineering. For his PhD, he is investigating the influence of earthquake duration on structural systems to develop methods to improve the current seismic design and assessment guidelines. He employs large-scale numerical simulations to identify and understand the physical mechanisms underlying the effect of earthquake characteristics through concepts of structural dynamics. As an active member of the disaster research community, he also finds his interests in the broader areas of natural hazards and disaster risk mitigation, particularly for earthquakes, to contribute towards more resilient communities. He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering for Risk Mitigation from Politecnico di Milano, Italy and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Thapar Univeristy, India.
