Engineering Student wins Thesis-in-Three

Philipp Sueltrop, PhD Student in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, took out first place in UC's 3 Minute Thesis Competition
1st place winner Philipp Sueltrop from UC Engineering, with judge Associate Professor Annick Masselot from UC Business and Law.
The UC Thesis-in-three final was held Tuesday 15 August 2017 in E8 (Engineering lecture theatre). Thesis-in-three is a competition among the University Doctoral and research Masters students to describe in simple terms their research in three minutes and one powerpoint slide. 16 research students from all five Colleges presented at the event.
The three winners of last night’s Thesis in Three University final:
1st: Philipp Sueltrop from UC Engineering ($5000 prize)
2nd: Jacq Jones from UC Arts ($2000 prize)
3rd: Jess McHale from UC Science ($1000 prize)
Philipp will represent UC at the 2017 Asia-Pacific 3MT Finals Friday 29 September 2017
Professor Ian Wright, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) opened proceedings, and Professor Jon Harding, Dean of Postgraduate Research, was the master of Ceremonies
The event was well attended, with at least 200 in attendance. Professor Harding, felt the Colleges were really well represented by the presentations. Harding commented that there was a great diversity of talks, with both domestic and international speakers. The presentations showed the depth of research at UC, clearly showing how cutting edge and topical our work is.
