Year 3 optional courses and prerequisites

Year 3 students must choose and enrol in one of the following courses (TECP315TECP316TECP317TECP318 or TECP319). These must be completed as part of the programme and are available to BTchLn Early Childhood students who have met pre-requisite requirements. The courses have been designed to enable students to integrate and consolidate the knowledge and understandings they have gained from their programme of study, and to extend their professional knowledge and skills.

Choosing your course is an important decision. Some students may select an optional course to demonstrate their distinctiveness or a ‘point of difference’. Others wish to pursue an interest area. All these optional courses explore contemporary educational issues and practices.

The links below will give you an indication of the content and learning outcomes of the option courses.

  • TECP315 Language, Culture and Identity: Enhancing Educational Experiences and Outcomes for Diverse Learners
  • TECP316 Te Ao Maori/ Matauranga Maori: Teaching and Learning from Maori Worldviews
  • TECP317 Digital Technologies and e-Learning for Transformative Education
  • TECP318 Research and Inquiry in Action
  • TECP319 Sustainability and Social Justice
  •
Pre-requisites

Students must have completed a minimum of 90 points from the Year 2 BTchLn (Early Childhood) Schedule including both Year 2 Professional Practice and Professional Inquiry courses. RP: Subject to approval of the Head of School.

** TECP316 has an additional pre-requisite of TECM101 and a compulsory Noho Marae.

Repeating a course

If you are a Year 2 or 3 student who is repeating a course, and you have already successfully completed some assessment components for that course, you are eligible to apply for an ‘‌Application for partial exemption from assessment in a course’.

If approved, you will be exempt from completing the assessment component(s) you have already passed. You would still need to enrol in and pay for the full course.  Until a decision is made students must continue with the course as if all assessment components still need to be completed. If you need further advice contact a Student Advisor.
