2024 Year One start dates, OSI and orientation
All endorsements - On-campus
- Thursday 15 February, you begin your on-campus course with a compulsory Orientation. This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study and course work. You will also meet other students and staff.
- On your first on-campus day, Thursday 15 February, meet on Ilam campus at 12:00pm in the A-block foyer, for a Mihi Whakatau. Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on the our website.
- Your regular timetabled courses begin on Monday 19 February. Your online timetable will provide confirmed times required for attendance.
- Part-time students must attend all their scheduled classes and also this compulsory orientation event.
All endorsements - Distance
- Your programme begins on Monday 12 February - Friday 16 February, with a compulsory OSI. This includes an introduction to UC and the Faculty of Education, an introduction to tertiary study, a compulsory workshop on the Treaty of Waitangi and course work. You will also meet other students and staff. Your online timetable will provide confirmed times required for attendance.
- On your first day, Monday 12 February, meet on Ilam campus at A block lecture theatres at 12:00pm, to register before you prepare for the Mihi whakatau (a formal welcome ceremony). A staff member will direct you from there. Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on the our website.
- The last activity is scheduled to finish on Friday 17th February by 5pm for distance students.
- Part-time students must attend all their scheduled classes but can attend extra orientation activities offered at UC in their free time.
- Please note: Travel and accommodation costs associated with your OSIs are not included in your course fees. You need to set funds aside to cover these yourself.
Nelson campus students
- Your programme begins Monday 12 February with a compulsory Orientation to the University of Canterbury, our Faculty of Education and the Nelson programme. This includes an introduction to teaching and tertiary study and course work.
- On your first day, Monday 12 February, please assemble along with your fellow students at FM Block, 145 Collingwood St at 9:00am The orientation programme will include a Mihi whakatau (welcome ceremony) to the Nelson Centre. Information about Mihi whakatau, including appropriate attire, can be found on our website.
- In early February, you will receive a letter from the Nelson Coordinator with more detailed information about your orientation programme, and the structure of your weekly programme throughout the year.
