Studying Sport Coaching equips you with key skills employers are looking for, not just in sport, recreation or athlete development, but in everything from people development and motivation in business environments, to events and corporate management.

Sport Coaching students develop a valuable set of transferable skills including motivation and teaching skills, awareness of holistic health principles and wellbeing, interpretive and analytical skills, leadership and people management skills, and problem solving skills.

Undergraduate qualifications in Sport Coaching

If you're involved in sport coaching or team management at any level and wish to enhance your development and skills, the Certificate in Sport Coaching (CertSpC) is the ideal programme for you. The certificate offers the flexibility of studying full-time or part-time, on campus or at home. The programme can be tailored by choosing the courses that fit your interests and needs. Learn from leading experts and academics and have access to world-leading technologies in the Sports Lab and personalised online support for distance students.

The CertSpC may be completed as a 6-month full-time qualification or part-time over a period of up to 3 years.

The certificate consists of 60 points (four courses). Students complete SPCO 101 Introduction to Sport Coaching OR SPCO 102 Theoretical Foundations of Coaching and Teaching AND SPCO 201 Athlete-Centred Coaching 1 plus an additional 30 points of SPCO courses from this list, with options including Nutrition, Psychology, Strength and Conditioning. 

The Graduate Certificate in Sport Coaching provides practising coaches and those employed in the sports industry the opportunity to develop their professional coaching skills. It is also available to students who are not currently employed in the industry, but wish to develop skills and competencies to gain employment in performance sport coaching contexts.

The GradCertSpC will develop knowledge and expertise in contemporary sport coaching pedagogy and also provides the opportunity to develop skills in leadership and planning, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, rehabilitation, reconditioning and nutrition. The practicum enables students to apply their learning and knowledge in their own work, in sport coaching settings or areas of sporting interest.

The GradCertSpC may be completed as a six-month full-time qualification or part-time over a period of up to four years. The GradCertSpC is offered as an online, flexible learning option where courses are supported through online resources, discussion forums, recorded lectures, PowerPoint presentations, video tutorials and other electronic media.

The GradCertSpC is a 60-point course comprising of four 15-point papers. SPCO 301 Sport Coaching and Leadership, SPCO 302 Athlete-Centred Coaching 2 and SPCO 310 Practicum 3 are compulsory courses plus students choose one additional 15-point course from Schedule C of the Bachelor of Sports Coaching.

Students of other degrees with an interest in Sport Coaching may include our courses in other degrees.  Sport Coaching is also a popular choice for a double degree with common combinations including Law, Commerce and Management.
