Dr Kathleen Quinlivan is an internationally recognised researcher in the field of school- based sexuality education within formal and non-formal educational sites within secondary schools. She is particularly interested in exploring the conditions of possibility for transformational learning related to genders, sexualities and differences with young people. Dr Quinlivan has published widely in the field of school- based sexuality education. She is an author of Contemporary Issues in Sexuality Education For Young People: Learning and Teaching with Theory (2018, Palgrave MacMillan) co-editor of The Politics of Pleasure in Sexuality Education: Pleasure Bound (2014, Routledge), and is the lead editor of a book published in 2009 by Sense Publishers entitled Educational Enactments in a Globalised World: Intercultural Conversations. Kathleen is currently directing a New Zealand Aids Foundation and University of Canterbury research project exploring the role that gay straight alliances play as sites of learning within New Zealand secondary schools. She has directed a University of Canterbury research project entitled Attending to Young Peoples’ Emergent Becomings in the Sexuality Education Classroom (2013- 17), and been a co-investigator on an Australian Research Council Grant (2011-2012): Sexuality Education in Australia and New Zealand: Responding to Religious and Cultural Difference. She was a co-investigator on two Teaching and Learning Research Initiative projects; exploring Shifting Conceptualisations of Knowledge and Learning in the New Zealand Curriculum in Initial and Preservice Teacher Education (2009-2011), and Write On: Investigations into the Relationships between Teacher Learning and Student Achievement through Writing. (2005-2007).
