The aim of this PLD is to ensure a focus on raising achievement for Pasifika through teaching that is responsive to Pasifika, is focused on achievement and is situated within sound evidence and pedagogical knowledge. Early childhood services and schools, CoL/ Kāhui Ako can select this provider to deliver these services in any region across the country, specifically targeting Pasifika learners.
This PLD programme will enhance and promote the social and cultural conditions necessary to bring about educational change for Pasifika students by focusing on:
- governance and leadership for Pasifika Success
- Pasifika identities, languages and cultures
- being culturally capable, competent and proficient to engaging students
- making connections, communicating and engaging with Pasifika parents, families and communities
- teaching as inquiry and pedagogical practices for raising Pasifika achievement.
These foci occur within the context of Te Whaariki, the New Zealand Curriculum 2007 and the The Pasifika Education Plan 2013-2017 (PEP). The PEP’s vision is for five out of five Pasifika learners participating, engaging and achieving in education, secure in their identities, languages and cultures and contributing fully to Aotearoa New Zealand’s social, cultural and economic wellbeing. Achieving this vision requires shifting attitudes, thinking and practices in early childhood services, schools and CoL/ Kāhui Ako, at all levels and, particularly at the Governance, Leadership and in Senior Leadership teams in the first instance.
This PLD programme will tailor, and be culturally responsive in, its service provision to support and enhance the social and cultural conditions necessary to bring about educational change for Pasifika students while keeping the learner at the centre.
