MOE Accredited Facilitator - Summary of Practice
Chris is based in the Christchurch office but travels extensively across the country in her National Leader: Accelerating Learning in Literacy role.
Chris is able to support you in the following areas:
- Literacy and literacy leadership
- Putting the fun back into your teaching through a love of literacy
- Planning an inspiring classroom programme that supports meeting the National Standards
- Understanding that literacy is the ‘glue’ that holds all of the learning areas together
- Culturally responsive practice and inclusivity of all students
- Teaching as inquiry and changing the learning trajectories for students
- How to accelerate as opposed to remediate student learning
- Reviewing school literacy practices and making recommendations
Chris has had extensive experience and success as a teacher, leader and facilitator. She enjoys working with leaders and teachers and believes that a focus on literacy does not restrict the curriculum but in fact opens up a wider window on the world of learning.
In her role as National Leader: Accelerating Learning in Literacy, the Ministry of Education’s innovative and successful programme for students, Chris has the privilege of visiting and working with many schools across New Zealand. She appreciates the opportunity to see and share the many different contexts and ways that learning is happening across schools.
Chris’s evaluative capability supports schools to identify what their strengths and needs are and then supports the leaders to develop a collaborative plan that harnesses the existing expertise in the school/CoL to lead this development.
Chris is passionate about every child becoming a successful literacy learner who has the skills, attitudes and behaviours that allows them to have all of the choices and chances in the world to be who and what they want to be.
When Chris is not at work she enjoys time with family and friends, a quiet read and a good game of tennis!
