Pūkeko’s Adventures
A special part of the Early Childhood Learning Centre programme is our soft-toy friend Pūkeko.
Pūkeko has many adventures with his friends at the Centre and has visited the homes of children, been to the museum and to various other Christchurch attractions. He has also travelled further afield with different children on their holidays.
Pūkeko has travelled to Invercargill and visited a tuatara, and he has also travelled to Denmark, Antarctic, Pakistan, Uganda, Australia and China. When he returns home to the Centre, his adventures are written up in his Learning Journal and photos are displayed on the Centre's walls.
Pūkeko's exploits provide an excellent learning platform for the children and teachers. Not only do they supply wonderful information about the places that Pūkeko has visited but they encourage the children to question, research and explore other cultures and parts of the big world we live in.
Pūkeko celebrated his sixth birthday in March 2014. Read all about his adventures below.
