Description

Review of the basic features of Spanish that leads into an intensified examination of more complex structures for both conversational and written Spanish, including a wide range of verb structures.

SPAN201 is a continuing Spanish course that assumes prior knowledge of Spanish at the second semester level. This course will build on your existing language skills acquired in the first year by reviewing the basic features of Spanish and leading into an intensified examination of more complex structures for both conversational and written Spanish, including a wide range of verb structures. In addition, this course has been designed to present an integrated skills approach to intermediate Spanish that develops both receptive and productive skills simultaneously. Consequently, the aim of the course is to continue incrementing the students’ ability and confidence in the four key skills of language learning: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. At the same time, it will also offer students the opportunity to learn about the culture of the many countries where Spanish is spoken.

Learning Outcomes

  • This course addresses the five key attributes of UC Graduate Profile:

  • Students will be aware of and understand the nature of biculturalism in Aotearoa New Zealand and its relevance to the Hispanic world and will be competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts.

  • Students will be provided with the ability to become critically competent in the language after being provided with advanced knowledge of complex grammatical structures and parts of speech.

  • Students will acquire knowledge and attributes sought by employers that can be used in a range of applications.

  • Students will comprehend the influence of global conditions on the Spanish-speaking world and will be competent in engaging with global and multi-cultural contexts.
