Description

This course introduces the fundamentals of mathematics, statistics, and algorithms for game development. The topics covered are an introduction to linear algebra, statistics for game balancing, and algorithms in computer games and computer graphics. The practical aspect of this course will teach the students how to apply the theoretical concepts in game development on one of the standard game engines.

Learning Outcomes

  • A student who successfully completes this course will:
  • Understand linear algebra and be able to apply the knowledge in the context of game
           development
  • Be able to work with and convert between different coordinate systems
  • Have developed an understanding of the mathematics of geometric primitives
  • Learn and be able to apply statistics especially for game balancing
  • Have the ability to apply mathematics in 3D graphics and real-time physics simulation
  • Learn the basics of Unreal Game Engine and be able to develop games with it
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Excel for basic statistical analyses

PROD121 and 15 points of MATH, EMTH or STAT courses

Updated Course Description:

This course introduces the fundamentals of mathematics and statistics for game development. The topics covered are an introduction to linear algebra, coordinate systems and geometric primitives in game engines, game balancing, mathematics applications in 3D graphics and real-time physics simulation. This course's practical aspect will teach the students how to develop games using the Unreal Game Engine and using Microsoft Excel for statistical analyses.
