Drawing, design and geometry of engineering components. Introductory course to CAD.
Students are introduced to a spectrum of manufacturing technologies and simultaneously versed on the formalized engineering design process. The objective is to give the student an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of these processes and an understanding of the relationships between Product Design, Method of Manufacture and market requirements. The course lays the foundation for ENME221 in semester 2 by introducing elements of the formalized design process through a design and build competition. The competition is run annually among Australasian Engineering Schools and sponsored by the professional engineering institutions and Weir Pumps (a large international manufacturer).
