Description

Topics covered: baseband transmission, oSignal space, digital modulation and reception, equalization, communications systems, queuing theory, error control coding and networking

Learning Outcomes

  • At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Describe basic networking concepts and techniques.
  • Encode and decode block and convolutional codes.
  • Analyze the distance and error correction capabilities of error control codes.
  • Represent the convolutional codes in terms of state diagrams and trellises.
  • Perform modulation and demodulation using PSK, QAM and FSK.
  • Calculate the error probability of various modulations including PSK and QAM.
  • Describe an OFDM system.
  • Specify and analyze filtering and line coding specifications and requirements for digital transmission.
  • Develop equalization strategies and configurations for mitigating the effects of intersymbol interference in digital systems.
