Description

This course is the capstone final year honours project. It involves research and design and develops skills in life-time learning.

The purpose of the course is to develop the student in the areas of research and the application of problem-solving skills in line with engineering practices. There are no pre-existing solution paths as these are unique research and design problems.

The course typically involves research, design, fault finding, analysis and interpretation of results, and finally a professional written and oral report with regards to the research undertaken.

Learning Outcomes

  • To develop students’ ability to research, formulate and solve problems in complex engineering systems using fundamental engineering principles and mathematics. Develop skills in understanding accepted methods of dealing with uncertainty and limitations of methods. Develop leadership skills (such as time management) by giving responsibility for project management to the students. Develop effective communication skills both orally and written by requiring presentation of the project as various stages and settings.

    Outcomes:

  • Develop and demonstrate a students’ ability to perform research.
  • Develop and demonstrate self-directed learning skills.
  • Develop the ability to formulate and design solutions for complex engineering systems.
  • Develop to organise their own work and be responsible for individual accomplishment.
