Description

Communication engineering and signal processing. Convolution, correlation, Fourier series and transform, amplitude modulation, angle modulation, analogue filters, random processes, noise in modulated systems, discrete signal processing, digital transmission (PCM, TDM and FDM), DTFT/DFT and FIR/IIR filter design.

Learning Outcomes

  • At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Understand the fundamentals of signal processing in time and frequency domains.
  • Be able to apply the signal processing techniques to communications engineering systems.
  • Understand the theory behind transmission and reception of information using a carrier waveform.
  • Be able to analyse noise in modulated systems.
  • Design analogue and digital filters.
