Description

Engineering economics, project management, professional report writing, project research methods, and safety in the process industry.

• Capital and operating cost estimation (KRM, 7)
• Economic evaluation, project management, contracts (KRM, 7)
• Ethics, interviews, employment contracts (KRM 4)
• Control strategy development (KRM, 3)
• SuperPro Designer (CJF, 3)
• Hazard identification methods and risk estimation techniques used in the process industry (PAG, 10)

Learning Outcomes

  • Be able to estimate the capital cost of a chemical engineering process
  • Understand the time value of money as it is applied to investment decisions
  • Be able to evaluate the economic worth of a chemical engineering process
  • Understand the relationship between company accounts and engineering decisions
  • Understand social and cultural matters that might influence investment decisions
  • Understand some ethical and employment matters that might affect chemical engineers
  • Be able to apply control strategies to a plant design
  • Knowledge of process design software using SuperPro Designer as an example
  • Be able to apply hazard identification methods and risk estimation techniques
