Description

In this course students are introduced to a solution-focused model of supervision and reflective practice. They also explore the importance and implications of cultural supervision for safe counselling practice. The course requires students to engage in group supervision and reflective practice.

Learning Outcomes

Students will:
(a) Articulate what reflective practice is and its relationship to effective counselling practice.
(b) Demonstrate an ability to engage in critical reflective practice and use this process to develop effective counselling practice.  
(c) Articulate the role of supervision in promoting effective counselling practice.
(d) Demonstrate an understanding of the foundational assumptions of a Solution-Focused model of supervision.
(e) Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of cultural responsiveness in supervision and the implications of culturally competent supervision for counselling practice.  
(f) Demonstrate an ability to effectively engage in group supervision.

Timetable Note

Please note group supervision takes places on Mar 24th, May 20th, and Aug 20th. On these days, you will be required to attend a group supervision either in the morning or the afternoon, for up to four hours, not for the whole day. You will be notified of your group upon commencement of the course.

Formal and informal evaluation will take place in accordance with the relevant Course Evaluation Policy, to provide feedback to staff about the relevance and validity of what has been learned as well as the quality of course delivery.
