Description

This course builds on the foundational skills and knowledge required for communicating news and information to various publics. Students will learn how to develop their reporting and multimedia skills to produce engaging digital content. They will also gain knowledge of their ethical responsibilities and learn to critically reflect on their own and others' media practice. The course combines analytical skills with practical experience, including fieldwork and internship opportunities, to help consolidate the links between theory and practice, and develop independence in professional work.

Attendance & Participation 5%
5 x new stories 45% A minimum of 5 stories written to an approved standard (and not about court or police proceedings AND at least 3 stories must include a video snap.
Feature & Critique 15% NOTE this assignment comprises three parts. • 10% Feature proposal, due Wednesday 11 August, 9am • 75% Feature, 1000 words, due Friday 15 October, 5pm • 15% Critique of feature, 400 words, due Wednesday 20 October, 5pm
Audio 20% Audio packages must be submitted in text copy (including scripts, intros of packages and clips transcribed in full) along with the audio. Be sure to follow radio conventions: text must be double spaced, and your name, the date and story slug must be at top. And you may not use a story you have already filed for another assignment.
Portfolio & Publication 08 Oct 2021 10% OVERALL PORTFOLIO (75%). PUBLICATION (25%). Marks are awarded for the overall standard of your final portfolio (including assigned stories and any extras), as well as the number of stories you've had published (taking account of the quality of the publication and story placement).
