Description

In this course students will consider how the Greeks and the Romans thought of themselves and others. While keeping their focus on particular historical times (Fifth century Athens and Augustan Rome), students will gain an understanding of gender issues, colonisation and identity in the ancient world and how ancient views still affect us. The main learning objective is to introduce students to reading, analysing and interpreting ancient literary texts and material culture expressing the myths that the Greek and the Romans told themselves, applied to politics and materialized through object production and architectural interventions.
