Description

TEPP305 Professional Practice 5 has a particular focus for students on assessment and planning in an early childhood context of Aotearoa New Zealand. Students will be expected to integrate knowledge and skills from year one and year two courses and be able to observe and engage in planning and assessment within the centre programme.

*Please note this course is only available to initial teacher education students. To enrol in this course you need to be accepted and enrolled in one of our Initial Teacher Education programmes.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the conclusion of the course students will be able to:
    1. Demonstrate the teacher dispositions to a satisfactory level.

    2. Demonstrate at least 80% of the Year 3 competencies to a ‘met’ level.

    3. Demonstrate professional knowledge and skills of  planning and assessment with reference to:
  • Te Whāriki
  • Current theory and related literature
  • Kei Tua o Te Pae (books 1 – 20), Te Whatu Pokeka/Kaupapa Māori assessment

    4. Critically evaluate professional growth towards Our Codes Our Standards

Academic integrity

All forms of cheating and dishonest practice are taken seriously and penalties will result. Students should refer to Regulation J of the General Course and Examination Regulations.

On submitting assignments, students must confirm that the work being handed in is original and their own work.

Attendance

Students will be expected to conduct at least one pre-placement visit at their allocated early childhood setting.  Full attendance in the early childhood setting  for the duration of the practicum, from at least 8.00am - 4.00pm each day, is a requirement.  Students will attend a debriefing interview with their PP lecturer after the placement concludes. This interview will be conducted at a University of Canterbury campus or via flexible delivery mechanisms.

Special Considerations

Once a placement has started, if for reasons beyond their control, students are prevented from completing a placement or suffer significant impairment, they may apply for what is known as “special consideration”. University of Canterbury Special Consideration provisions for this course will apply only to late discontinuation (withdrawal) from a course.

Professional Practice Report Book:  Distance students should submit their Professional Practice Report Book the Professional Practice Administrator by the due date.
