This course will examine the multiple languages of children within the negotiated, co-constructed early childhood curriculum of the Aotearoa New Zealand bicultural context. Students will consider the role of intentional teaching in planning for and facilitating possibilities and opportunities for multiple language experiences. Affordances and constraints for learning within the environment, and building confidence in students to listen to infants, toddlers and young children, and promote these experiences will be the foci of this course.
On the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:1. Critically reflect on the significance of the multiple languages of children within the negotiated, co-constructed early childhood curriculum2. Analyse and critically reflect on the role of intentional teaching in planning for and facilitating possibilities and opportunities for multiple language experiences3. Identify affordances to support integrated learning within children’s multiple language experiences4. Design holistic and integrated learning experiences for infants, toddlers and young children
Students must attend one activity from each section.
