Description

This course challenges students to critically assess various contemporary nutritional and recovery techniques and delve into the research to determine their effectiveness. Students will look at the multidisciplinary relationship between the sports nutritionist and the strength and conditioning coach. Additionally, students will gain an appreciation of when it is appropriate to recommend a particular supplement / recovery intervention.

Learning Outcomes

After completing this course, successful students will be able to:
1. Develop an in-depth understanding of the proposed mechanisms underlying popularly used recovery techniques.
2. Through experimentation critically evaluate the effectiveness of various nutritional interventions on performance.  
3. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of central and peripheral models of fatigue and be able to relate these models to various types of sporting performance.
4. Appreciate the role of a Strength and Conditioning Coach in advising athletes on recovery interventions and nutritional practices.
5. Use problem-solving techniques to identify areas worthy of investigation to address sporting performance limitations.
6. Understand the concepts of reliability and validity in designing and carrying out a nutritional / recovery intervention pilot studies.

Report 50% Monitor an athlete's training week, providing a report on your findings, including a recovery plan
Nutrition plan 50% Develop a performance nutrition plan for an athlete
