Description

This course reviews the fundamentals of social research, including: ethical considerations; sampling and data collection; data analysis and, dissemination and distribution of research knowledge related to the social work. The major course assessment is a research project.

Learning Outcomes

  • Highly specialised knowledge of research approaches in social work and the ability to acquire, understand and assess information from a range of sources.
  • A critical awareness of the issues involved in contemporary social work practice;
  • The ability to identify emerging issues and develop solutions in practice;
  • Skills needed for individual independent social work research;
  • Capacity to conceptualise ethical research practice;
  • Knowledge and application of bicultural and multicultural components necessary for the completion of a social work practice research project;
  • Engagement with a practice research community; and
  • Capacity to understand, explain and connect different ideas within the practice research context.
