Description

Special Topic

Special Topic - User Interface Design

This course provides students with an opportunity to learn to build interactive user interfaces and prototypes for digital products. User Interface (UI) Design is considered a critical aspect of modern product design, especially in digital products and products with digital interfaces.

UI design is a process of visually guiding the users to communicate and interact with the products via interactive elements. UI design can be applied in mobile application/game design, software design, and design for digital devices across all platforms to enhance the users' experience.

Students will be introduced to the design principles, research methods, and design approaches for UI/Ux design to create interactive interfaces that users will find visually appealing and mentally comfortable to use. Students will be able to identify users' needs of a specified context, construct, visualise, test, and present clickable digital prototypes in high-fidelity. Students will learn to design interactive interfaces for both digital and physical products in this course, which will expand their future career choices.

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the course students will be able to:
  • Use various user research techniques to understand and identify users' needs then analyse
and deliver user research in forms that support UI design.
  • Select appropriate ideation techniques that start from user research and broadly generate
potential design ideas for early UI design exploration.
  • Design and prototype interactive user interfaces to address the users and tasks identified in
           user research.
  • Apply principles from graphic design to create visually appealing user interfaces using
           advanced Adobe Illustrator techniques.
  • Employ appropriate processes to design for specific populations and situations, including
           accessible and inclusive UI design.
  • Deliver high-fidelity interactive UI prototypes and communicate the designs effectively with
           programmers and stakeholders.
  • Create interactive UI prototypes to complete future design projects of Smart Product.
