Description

A supervised, independent research project

OVERVIEW

Completion of a 15-20,000-word dissertation is necessary for completion of the MIRAD/MPAG/MArts, with a relevant topic chosen in the fields of international relations and diplomacy or policy and governance. The dissertation is the largest and most sustained piece of research and written work that most of you will have ever completed and will probably be the longest piece of writing that most of you will ever individually produce. It is also the single-most valuable piece of assessment in the MIRAD/MPAG/MArts degree. For these reasons, it is important to approach your dissertation thoughtfully and carefully, to ensure that at the end of your degree you have produced the best piece of work that you were capable of.

Structure of POLS650/688

POLS650/688 can be taken:
1) as a full year course running from the first day of semester 1 to January 31 the following year
2) as a one semester course running from the first day of semester 3 (i.e. the semester after you have completed all of your coursework) until the end of the mid-year examination period.
3) As a full year course starting on the first day of semester 2 to the end of the mid-year examination period the following year. Students taking this option will generally have started the degree mid-year and (for administrative reasons) will be enrolled in POLS692 and POLS693 rather than POLS688.
