Description

Ionising radiation, interactions, energy deposition, nuclear models, radiation units, radiation generation, and isotope production.

Summary of the course content:
The topic areas covered are
 basic nuclear physics
 radioactivity
 nuclear reactions
 charged particle ionising radiation
 uncharged ionising radiation
 dosimetric principles, quantities and units, and dosimetry in practice
 neutrons.

Learning Outcomes

To provide an underpinning understanding, and a practical knowledge of
 the types, origins and sources of ionising radiation and its interaction with matter
 the basics of ionising radiation dosimetry
 the principles involved in the detection and measurement of ionising radiation
 the use of basic radiation measuring instruments.
