Description

This course examines how organisations manage risk and eSecurity associated with their information systems. Topics include management, analysis and application of secure e-Business systems including security policy and network management.

Learning Outcomes

  • This course examines how organisations manage risk and eSecurity associated with their information systems. Topics include management, analysis and application of secure e-Business systems including security policy and network management.

    Learning Outcomes:
    By the end of this course the student should be able to:
  • Have an understanding of the role and impact of IS risk and security management in modern firms.
  • Design and apply key security concepts, components, technologies and selection criteria associated with the use of IS in the modern firm.
  • Design and apply key information system security and data management concepts.  
  • Develop an information security and disaster recovery policy.
  • Discuss key issues associated with managing IS in the modern firm, including the security and ethical problems they pose.

Timetable Note

Lab Tutorials: Times and place TBA.  These tutorials will meet in computer labs, for two hours per week during most weeks, as noted on the schedule at the back of this course outline.  Students will use the tutorials to develop their group project, which will include the design of an information security policy, and implement their policy by means of a computer lab project.

Consultations: The lecturer and tutors will be available by appointment for consultations.
