Description

An introductory course in calculus and linear algebra that is designed primarily for students who have done well in Level 3 NCEA Mathematics, covering single variable calculus and basic ideas in linear algebra. The mathematics in this course has applications in many areas of science and commerce.

This occurrence of the course is for approved online students only. On-campus students should enrol in the (C) occurrence of this course.

Students may be required to sit invigilated tests and exams in-person in Christchurch, or with off-campus in-person invigilation, or with online invigilation, depending on the student's location.  Where online invigilation is required the student will need to ensure that they have a suitable internet connection and access to technology including a webcam, and may be required to download and install online invigilation software.   Also see Clashes and alternative arrangements

The work in MATH102 is based around the fundamental ideas in linear algebra and calculus which students started studying at school. MATH102 can be taken as a standalone course or as the first part of a core mathematics programme.

Linear equations and matrices; Numbers, Functions, and Limits; Differentiation and applications; Integration and applications.

Prerequisites

1. MATH101, or
2. NCEA 14 Credits at level 3 Mathematics, or
3. Cambridge: D at A level or an A at AS level in Mathematics, or
4. IB: 4 at HL or 5 at SL in Mathematics, or
5. Approval of the Head of School based on alternative prior learning.
