An introduction to the legal framework created for sustainable management of Aotearoa New Zealand's natural and physical resources, pollution control, town planning and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles. Theis course focuses on the Law relating to resource management and environmental regulation, as they relate to contemporary issues. Current contentious issues include water rights, wind farms, emissions and iwi involvement.
This course is designed for students wishing to study selected issues in resource management law and sustainability. The course focuses on the Resource Management Act 1991 (which is currently under reform). It investigates various statutory provisions in the Act that we are certain will remain as fundamental parts of any reform, addresses contemporary case law and outlines the proposed reforms. By the end of the course, it is hoped that students have gained an invaluable insight into the current Act's process and how that might or might not change under reform. This will be invaluable in any law firm.
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:
