Special Topic: Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a broad interdisciplinary field encompassing technology, science, business and philosophy topics. AI is a disruptive technology, which is already transforming industries and business models and has the potential for further radical changes in business and society. The aim of this course is to examine AI in the context of business applications and provide insights into its current and future use in different industry and organisational contexts. By introducing and analysing the current state of art, the course will equip students with the knowledge and understanding of AI technologies and their role in innovative business strategies and competitive outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

  • On successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of AI concepts and their business applications
  • Identify potential opportunities for strategic advantage for specific AI techniques in a business context
  • Design and propose AI solutions
  • Evaluate the technical and business benefits, costs and risks of AI technologies in a specific business application
  • Discuss the impact of AI applications at the individual, organisational and society level.
