Description

Emerging and disruptive technologies are pervasive and transformational, changing the way in which people and businesses operate. Drawing on cutting-edge research, this course explores new technologies, trends, business models, issues and impacts. Students will critically analyse technology trends and make recommendations aimed at delivering significant, enduring and transformative business impacts, products, services and customer value.

Changes in the role IT require business technology leaders to engage in new business, process and operating models. This course explores contemporary and emerging issues, technologies and business models as these relate to the management and use of information systems to enable and deliver significant, enduring and transforming business impacts and customer value. The focus of this course is on the understanding and evaluation of new and emerging technologies that are transforming businesses and societies. With the rapid changes in technologies IT professionals and domain experts must be able to identify and evaluate new and emerging technologies and their potential for supporting and enhancing organisational and societal value.

As a course on ‘Emerging IT’ students will learn to identify, research and evaluate new and emerging technologies, and assess trends in technology development and their potential impacts. They will learn how to develop a technology roadmap and be introduced to techniques for forecasting new technologies. Students will also be exposed to key issues and challenges associated with managing and integrating new and emerging technologies in organisations and society

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of key principles related to the application of IT and emerging technologies, including related theories of innovation, change, and technology transfer;
  • Demonstrate understanding of and expertise in emerging technology forecasting.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of different digital platforms / services and their suitability for
    business applications;
  • Demonstrate understanding of and expertise in identifying and evaluating potential advanced IS/IT
    projects;
  • Demonstrate understanding of design and implementation of emerging technologies that address
    business or societal problems
