Description

This course examines contemporary research on learning design and assessment in tertiary teaching, and explores learning and assessment design practices in order to enhance student learning outcomes.

Why does teaching sometimes naturally flow and other times feel forced? How can you draw students in to engage with materials and take more ownership of their learning across all levels? Have you ever been stuck on how to design an effective assessment task, teaching activity, or course? Can you rethink your course to move to more flexible delivery to provide more opportunities for students to learn from any location?

HEDN603 will provide you with experiences rich in both intention and inspiration through exposure to academic content and theory, hands-on experiential activities, and an invitation to consider your own learning design context. HEDN603 puts you in the driver's seat of being the designer of your own teaching.

Effective learning and teaching doesn't just happen, it is designed with intention and inspiration.

Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate an understanding of key teaching and learning literature in tertiary education generally and within the specific topics of learning design and assessment;
2. Reflect upon and critique evidence gathered about learning design and assessment practices;
3. Revise their own learning design and assessment practices in a way that reflects an understanding and application of the teaching and learning literature and theory.
