Description

An introduction to sensing platforms for geospatial applications, using embedded computers and GIS. Students will develop skills for the acquisition of sensor data, sensor signal pre-processing/conditioning, integration with online GIS and visualization of gathered data in the form of both static and dynamic maps. Practical work focuses on programming hardware to work with different types of sensors, establishing web-based communication and interconnectivity between sensors and GIS, and processing and visualizing sensor data in different formats for geospatial applications including dynamic, real-time web maps. The course also includes a research component, where students will conceptualize, design, implement, test and present a custom geospatial sensing system.
