This course provides the means for students to complete the non-academic requirements for the BForSc. The requirements are completion of four field trips, completion of a Forestry General Requirements workshop; presentation of a current approved First Aid Certificate during their period study and complete 90 days of practical work experience. Students are required to provide two reports based on a minimum of 30 days of practical work experience and 30 days of professional practice. The other 30 days of work experience can be either practical or professional and confirmation of all work experience must be provided by the immediate line manager or Human Resources department of the employing company.
Students will acquire a range of practical non-academic skills and understanding relating to field work, forestry site visits and general forestry skill sets that underpin forestry in its broadest sense. Students will see and undertake a range of field-based activities reflecting current practice in the industry. Students will experience employment in the forest industry. Students are required to present two work experience reports: one based on practical work; and one based on professional practice. The reports are expected to reflect on the structure of the business; the student's role within the company; skills and personal attributes required; forestry technical skills required; and evaluate the skills and knowledge that would have assisted in the role. Students are required to provide confirmation from the employer of the number of days work experience reported.
This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:

Students will complete the following non-academic requirements across the four-year duration of the degree:• Four programme field trips (run in the Easter term break each year)• Present a current approved First Aid Certificate• Complete a Forestry General Requirements Workshop• Complete a total of 90 days of practical work experience and present two reports covering a minimum of 30 days employment in each report.
