Description

Introduction to Mechatronics Engineering Design. Fundamentals of the design and manufacturing processes and the tools used in these processes, including engineering drawings, CAD, rapid prototyping.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, the student will be able to:

Use the engineering design process to develop a simple, integrated mechatronic system.

Competently use CAD software to produce solid modelled parts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.

Use knowledge of manufacturing processes to design mechanical components and select appropriate materials.

Design, manufacture, and assemble mechanical components using CNC and rapid prototyping methods.

Conduct electronic simulation and circuit board layout.

Communicate engineering design material through report writing and engineering drawings.

University Graduate Attributes

This course will provide students with an opportunity to develop the Graduate Attributes specified below:

Critically competent in a core academic discipline of their award

Students know and can critically evaluate and, where applicable, apply this knowledge to topics/issues within their majoring subject.
