The course is about 2/3 on numerical methods for simulation and 1/3 on computational fluid dynamics (CFD). 1. Numerical methods for the simulation of chemical processes (Matthew Watson)methods for solution of non-linear, poorly scaled, algebraic equationssolution of large systems of ODEsmodelling and solution of differential-algebraic equation (DAE) systemsmodelling of distributed parameter systemssolution of partial differential equation systems using the method of linesusing sparsity for speed2. Optimisation and parameter estimation (Ken Morison)optimisationoptimisation for non-linear curve fittingdesign and analysis of experiments using non-linear modelsparameter uncertainty in linear modelsmodelling uncertainty in systemsoptimisation of dynamic systems, including parameter estimation3. CFD (Daniel Holland)formulation of physical problems as CFD problemsmathematical terminology used for CFDuse of a standard CFD package setting up physical geometriesinterpretation and validation of results
