Description

Collaborative design of buildings and the use of digital tools. Creativity, communication and coordination in multidisciplinary design teams. Building information modelling strategies. Holistic approaches to building design.

This studio-based course applies advanced knowledge of building information methods, holistic and
interdisciplinary building design processes and collaboration to the development of solutions to
real design challenges. The course covers integrated design frameworks, managing multidisciplinary
design teams and using building information tools in collaborative design projects. Learning
includes team design projects and training in digital tools.

Learning Outcomes

A student who successfully completes this course should be able to apply advanced building
information and collaborative design principles to:

 Developing technical solutions that integrate with the requirements of other building
design disciplines.
 Utilising digital tools to communicate design issues and options with other designers and
stakeholders, and to develop integrated design solutions.
 Implementing building information strategies and procedures for collaborative design
projects.
 Leading and managing collaborative design undertaken by multidisciplinary design teams.
