Description

Participants will critically examine leadership theories in the research literature in order to justify their own approaches to leadership practice including the key features of Maori and Pasifika leadership practice. The course includes strategies for identifying learning needs as a leader and how to help others see potential for engaging in leadership work.

Learning Outcomes

  • On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Articulate the qualities/ characteristics of leaders of learning including the key features of Maori and Pasifika leadership practice.
  • Identify personal strengths and set goals for further development as a leader.
  • use and justify a selected theoretical framework from a nominated journal article to critique the leadership practice of a particular case.
  • Develop strategies with course members for supporting and growing the leadership capacity of other staff.

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Assignment 1: Essay and self-assessment of leadership learning 08 Apr 2024 45% An essay exploring the rationale and scope of leadership learning (for a particular type of leader or educational leaders in general) accompanied by the completion of a self-assessment leadership heuristic tool which includes an analysis of your professional leadership learning, past, current and future.
Assignment 2: Critique of a case study leader from a book chapter or journal article 27 May 2024 45% Critique a case study of a leader enhancing learning from a journal article or book chapter. The critique is made using one of the approved frameworks for assessing the connection between leadership and learning in the course materials.
Online Forum participation 10% Two assessed online forums with response to readings/video stimulus material
