Description

The course will combine teaching on the development of podcasting as an extension of radio and a media form in its own right and modes of storytelling across media, theoretical exploration of audio storytelling, analysis of a wide range of podcast examples, technical training in audio recording and editing, and a student-project in which they will develop and produce a podcast of their own.

Prerequisites

15 points at 200-level in COMS. Students without this prerequisite but with at least a B average in 60 points of relevant courses, may enter the course with the approval of the Department Co-ordinator or the Undergraduate Co-ordinator for COMS.

Assessment Due Date Percentage  Description
Participation 10% Attendance at all classes for 100%
Textual Analysis 40% Analysis of 4 podcasts through the semester. You must be able to analyse and identify audio techniques, storytelling structures, production processes, and the content. 4 analyses, 1000 words for 10% each.
Podcast Proposal 10% 1000 words, 10% of final mark Due: End of week 6. The podcast concept will be developed in pairs in an in-class workshop in week 6.
Podcast project 40% Audio: 30-60 mins.Writing: 2000 words 40% of final mark. Due: 2 weeks after the end of semester
