Description

This practical course introduces students to foundational digital media skills and provides an overview of how to produce and package content for online and mobile platforms. Students will analyse current trends in media practice, create content across a range of media and media texts, and reflect on their own practice, including the ethical responsibilities of digital communication.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you are expected to be able to apply and reflect on the basic research, production and presentation skills necessary for a career in the media. You will be expected to demonstrate:

1.     An ability to effectively gather and research information from primary sources independently and as part of a team
2.     An ability to write and edit across a range of styles and platforms
3.     Effective use of digital, social, audio and visual technologies for information gathering, media production and audience engagement
4.     Computer technology skills, including an ability to critically evaluate and use new media and digital tools in information gathering, content production and audience engagement
5.     An ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others
6.     An understanding of ethical media practice
7.     A developing awareness of bi-cultural and multi-cultural issues both nationally and internationally
8.     An ability to think reflectively and evaluate your own and others’ practice.
