Description

This practical course introduces students to foundational digital media skills and provides an overview of how to produce and package content for online and mobile platforms. Students will analyse current trends in media practice, create content across a range of media and media texts, and reflect on their own practice, including the ethical responsibilities of digital communication. This course is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Communication or Graduate Diplomas in Journalism or Strategic Communication.

Prerequisites

15 points COMS or 60 points BC Schedule V. HoD mandatory.

Applied workshop assignments 35% You’ll be assigned the following tasks for each workshop, some of which you must complete and upload before class, some of which you will complete in class. These assignments are designed to get you trying your hand at key skills early in the course so that you can get support and feedback (either in the workshops or via Learn) to prepare you for your final assignments. Full details of the work required each week are listed on the weekly sections of Learn.
Multimedia feature 40% A multimedia profile/feature story comprising text-based story, video, photo and social media posts. 40% Multimedia profile story, due 11.59pm Sunday 29 May
Critical reflection 25% Critical reflection of your multimedia feature and production skills.Reflect on the process of producing your profile/feature story and the choices you made for the assignment.
