APSY620 - Introduction to Professional Practice in I-O Psychology

Industrial-Organisational (I-O) Psychology is a scientist-practitioner vocation. In this postgraduate seminar, you will be developing your scientist-practitioner acumen and your unique professional. In the first half of the seminar, we will cover topics relating to the professional, ethical, legal, and cultural practice of I-O Psychology in Aotearoa New Zealand. In the latter half of the seminar, you will be developing a solution for a current gap in industry practice (group work). Throughout the semester you will be creating and adding to a professional e-portfolio to showcase your work.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, you will be able to:
1. Develop and apply a framework for ethical, legal, and cultural issues in practicing I-O Psychology.
2. Create original pieces of effective science communication for I-O Psychology.
3. Reflect on your learning and development journey throughout the course to better inform your unique approach to working in I-O Psychology.
4. Promote yourself as an I-O Psychology scientist-practitioner.
5. Exercise and adapt strategies for working in a team, including efficient project delegation, routine communication, the delegation of work, and building team cohesion.

Prerequisites
