Career planning and advice

Planning your career

Choosing a career involves more than just finding out what is open to you.

Who are you?

Knowledge about yourself is central to the process. It’s worth looking at your individual values, interests, and skills to relate career options to you.

Where can your specialist skills take you?

Your degree will give you an area of specialisation, and skills relevant to specific areas of employment. It is not possible to provide an exhaustive list of possible careers in any area, but our "What can I do with a degree from UC?" series can help you start this decision-making process.

How we can help

Make an express appointment with a Careers consultant to get help with:

  • CVs, cover letters and application forms
  • Job search strategies
  • Interview preparation
  • Understanding your career options
  • Career-based study choices
  • Applying for vacancies through CareerHub

Express appointments are held on weekdays between 10am and noon and take about 20 minutes. They are ideal if you need help with a CV or cover letter, or with using CareerHub.

If a longer appointment is necessary, a career counselling session is a better option.

Need help deciding what degree or courses you should enrol for? Unsure about the job prospects for your degree? Want to know how to make the most out of your time at UC? Wondering if postgraduate study is right for you?

You can work one-on-one with a qualified Career Consultant to discuss your options. We can also show you how to start researching the current job prospects in your chosen area.

Appointments are for half an hour to an hour, to allow time to provide the assistance you need to make an informed decision. Book an appointment on CareerHub.

A range of seminars are regularly delivered throughout the academic year to assist you with developing your career competencies and securing and enhancing your employability. The dates and times are listed in the Events section.
