How to apply
We accept applications until the programme is full or until courses start. As such, we recommend that you apply early as limited entry does apply.
Once you have decided on your qualification of choice and made sure you meet the entry requirements, you need to complete an application form, and in some cases, provide references. Check the “Application forms” tab below to see whether you can submit your application online, or whether you need to send it via email.
For the PGDipBA and the MBA, you are required to have an interview with the MBA Director to complete your application. We will contact you to arrange this once we receive your form and supporting documents.
Applicants to all our master's programmes must have qualified for a degree in any discipline with a minimum B grade average or equivalent. Applicants without a degree can apply for admission to the Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership (PGCertStratLdrship) and Postgraduate Certificate in Business and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Applicants who speak English as a second language will be required to produce evidence that their ability to communicate in English is of a high standard.
For the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDipBA), and Postgraduate Certificate in Strategic Leadership (PGCertStratLdrship) you must have at least five years' work experience in a managerial, professional, entrepreneurial or leadership role.
Your application will be assessed by the Programme Committee. If you are an international student, the committee will also assess your previous qualifications for equivalency. Depending on your programme, the committee will consider a combination of the following:
- Whether the decision to undertake the qualification has been well reasoned and that you are clear on how it will contribute to your career
- Whether you are able to contribute to the programme in class, in groups and to the general ethos of the programme
- English language test results (for international students)
- Your supporting references (if applicable)
- Your past and current employment experience (if applicable)
- Your future vision and goals, including your direction and motivation (if applicable).

Offer of place
If your application is approved you will be sent a letter of offer. When you receive this letter you will need to accept your offer via email.
Finalise your enrolment
Once you have accepted your offer you can complete your enrolment. This is done by logging into myUC (button link in the useful links on the top right of this page) and following the steps to enrol by selecting which courses you would like to take. Only enrol in the courses you intend to do in the year you are enrolling as you will enrol in the remaining courses in the following year(s). This is also where you indicate how you would like to pay your fees (StudyLink, credit card).
If you are new to UC, even if you have sent the documents required for your application electronically, you will need to take these in person to Student Services on Level 1 of the Matariki building. If you have had a name change since attaining your previous degree (by marriage/deed poll) you will need to provide documentary evidence. You will also need to create a new myUC account.
If you are an international student you must complete your enrolment in person and bring all relevant documents.

If you are enroling in an MBIS or PGDipBIS you will need to meet with the Programme Coordinator before you select your courses so they can go over your course options with you.
Start at EDP
A confirmation email will be sent to you confirming that you are enrolled and informing you where you can get your Canterbury Card (for new students). Don't forget to plan to be on campus the Thursday prior to your first day of term for Orientation.
