04 December 2017
ANZ announced Sharon Zollner is to succeed Cameron Bagrie as chief economist of ANZ.
What do Tony Alexander, Cameron Bagrie, Dominick Stephens, Nick Tuffley, Zoe Wallis, and Sharon Zollner have in common?
1. They are the current chief economists of the major commercial banks in New Zealand (BNZ, ANZ, Westpac, ASB, Kiwibank).
2. All of them are economics graduates of the University of Canterbury.
Tony Alexander (MA, 1984)
Cameron Bagrie (MCom, 1995)
Dominick Stephens (BSc(Hons), 1999)
Nick Tuffley (BCom(Hons), 1996)
Zoe Wallis (BCom(Hons), 2007)
Sharon Zollner (MCom, 1997)
All but Cameron Bagrie completed their undergraduate work in economics at the University of Canterbury as well. This is testimony to the high-quality training that the department has offered for many years. Since its establishment as a separate department in the university in 1921, the Department of Economics (and Finance since 2009) has produced scores of outstanding graduates who have made a mark in private enterprise and government.
