My research is focused on developing insights regarding catalysts and barriers to organizational innovation.
Jamie Collins is Professor and UC Chair of Strategy, Innovation & Entrepreneurship at University of Canterbury. He earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University; he teaches courses in Innovation, Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, and Small Business. He has taught at Clemson University, Texas A&M University, Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University, and Sam Houston State University. Prior to obtaining his doctorate, Jamie spent several years in private industry. He has previously served as a member of the management team of a private equity group, where he led investment screening and due diligence for the firm. Other prior industry experience includes: aerospace/defense, energy, financial services, and software. He also has extensive investment experience in real estate and agri-business.
Jamie's research examines the influence that perceptions of entrepreneurs exert on their deliberate choices to invest organizational resources in the pursuit of innovation opportunities, in various institutional contexts. This research program is built upon the perspective that organizations must continuously upgrade and/or enhance their internal capabilities to maintain their competitiveness, vitality, and longevity. It is the ongoing evolution of organizational capabilities that equips any organization to transform itself and provide value to relevant stakeholders.
His research is focused on developing data-driven insights pertaining to factors which serve as either catalysts or barriers to organizational innovation. This research tends to lend itself to using multiple research methods.
